Aban bin Saeed bin Al-Aas bin Umayya bin Abdul Manaf Al-Qurashi Al-Umayya
Life circumstances:
Imam Bukhari, Abu Hatim Razi and Ibn Hibban said: He has the honor of being a companion, his father belongs to the nobles of Quraysh, he has descendants according to lineage, Khalid and Umar became Muslims long before them, so Aban (may Allah be pleased with him) composed famous poems about them, the source of which is as follows: "If only I had died, I would have witnessed the slander of Amr and Khalid in religion (the deceased refers to Abu Ahya who is buried there)." Then Amr and Khalid joined those who migrated to Abyssinia and settled there, Aban bin Saeed attended the Battle of Badr in a state of polytheism, where his two brothers Al-As and Ubaidah were killed in a state of polytheism, and he somehow escaped and lived in Mecca until he sheltered Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) at the time of Hudaybiyah. When Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered the message of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Aban said to him: "Dismount and move forward and do not fear anyone, the Banu Saeed are the honorable people of the Haram."
Aban bin Saeed's conversion to Islam:
Then Amr and Khalid returned from Abyssinia, they corresponded with Aban, finally he listened to his sons, and then all three of them came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and during the time of Khaibar, Aban bin Saeed converted to Islam and participated in it with the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sent him on an expedition. All this has been mentioned by Al-Waqidi. Those who are knowledgeable in akhbar and qasas have agreed with him and this is what is known, but Ibn Ishaq has opposed him and has counted Aban bin Saeed (may Allaah be pleased with him) among those who migrated to Abyssinia, along with his wife Fatima bint Safwan Kananiyah. And Allaah knows best. Ibn Abi Khaithama narrated from Musa bin Ubaidah Al-Rabzi. He is one of the weak people. Iyas bin Salamah bin Al-Ku'ah narrated from his father that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) sent Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) to Medina, and Aban bin Saeed sheltered him, or rather, he took him on his horse and brought him to Mecca. Haitham bin Adi said: This narration reached me. Saeed bin Al-As said: When my father was killed in the Battle of Badr, I was under the care of my uncle Saeed bin Aban. He was a true guardian. He went to Syria for trade. In it, he narrated a long story that happened when he met a monk named Yaka. The monk told him about the signs of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and acknowledged his prophethood. He said to him: Send greetings to this righteous person (the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)). When Aban returned, he gathered his people and told him this story. He himself traveled to Medina and became a Muslim.
Participation in wars:
It is narrated in Bukhari and Abu Dawud from the narration of Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA), who said: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) sent Aban bin Saeed (RA) on an expedition towards Najd, so he and his companions came to the Prophet (PBUH) at Khaybar. (Hadith)
Death of Aban bin Saeed:
Al-Waqidi said: Ibrahim bin Ja’far narrated from his father, from Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him): At the time of the death of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), Aban bin Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him) was posted in Bahrain. Then he came to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and went to Syria, and was martyred on the day of Ajnadeen on the 13th of AH. This is the view of Musa bin Uqbah and most of the scholars.
Ibn Ishaq said: He was martyred in Yarmouk. Saif bin Amr agreed with him in his “Futuh”. Some said: He was martyred on the day of Marj al-Safar, which was narrated by Ibn al-Barqi.
Abu Hassan Ziyadi said that he died in the twenty-seventh year of the Hijri (27 AH) during the caliphate of Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). And the narration that proves that his death was later than the caliphate of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) is the one narrated by Ibn Abi Dawud and Baghvi on the authority of Sulayman bin Wahb al-Anbari. Nu'man bin Bazraj said: When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) died, Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) sent Aban bin Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him) to Yemen. Firuz spoke to him about the blood of Daduyyah, who was killed by Qais bin Makthuh. Aban (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Qais: Have you killed a Muslim? Qais denied that he had become a Muslim. He had killed him in revenge for his father and uncle. Aban gathered the people and addressed them, saying: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) has put an end to all the blood of the pre-Islamic period. Now whoever commits a new murder in Islam, we will take him to task with him. Then he said to Qais: Go to the Commander of the Faithful, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and I will write to you that I have decided between you two. Then he wrote to the Commander of the Faithful, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). The Commander of the Faithful enforced his decision. Baghvi says: I do not know of any other Musnad narration about Aban bin Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him).
"I say, Imam Bukhari has mentioned this narration briefly in his circumstances. Ibn Abdul Barr has declared the first statement to be more correct, then, concluding his life circumstances on this matter, he said: Aban bin Saeed (may Allah be pleased with him) is the person who was assigned to dictate the Mushaf of Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) to Hazrat Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him), which Hazrat Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered. Ibn Shihab has narrated this from Kharijah bin Zaid bin Thabit from his father. etc. This statement creates a contradiction and defense because Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered it during his caliphate. How can a person who was martyred during the caliphate of Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) live during the caliphate of Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him)? Rather, the narration that Ibn Abdul Barr has pointed out is a rare narration in which Nu'im bin Hammad is unique in narrating from Wardi. It is known that the person in charge of this service was Saeed bin Al-As bin Saeed bin Al-As, who was Aban bin Saeed. He is the nephew of the Prophet (peace be upon him). And Allah knows best.
