Abi Lahm Al Ghaffari Introduction:
Abi Lahm al-Ghaffari is a famous companion whose hadiths have been narrated by Tirmidhi, Nasa’i and Hakim. He narrated from Abu Ubaidah with his chain of transmission, who said: Abi Lahm’s name is Abdullah bin Abdul Malik bin Abdullah bin Ghaffar, a distinguished poet. He was present in Hunayn with his master Umair. He was named Abi Lahm because he did not eat meat (usually people used to slaughter in the name of idols, so they avoided it due to doubt). Al-Waqidi said: He was killed in Safra. Similarly, Khalifa bin Khayyat has said about his name and lineage. Hisham bin Adi and Hisham bin Al-Kalbi said: His name is Khalaf bin Abdul Malik and besides them (the scholars of genealogy) have said: His name is Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Malik. Some said: His name is Huwayrith bin Abdullah bin Khalaf bin Malik. Al-Marzbani said: His name is Abdullah bin Abdul Malik. He was a distinguished poet, he saw the times of Islam and the pre-Islamic era. I say: I have seen it written by the pen of Razi al-Shatibi, with the vowel of Abdul Malik, without the letter al-lam at the beginning.
Abi Lahm al-Ghaffari Hadith:
Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated in his Sahih from Umair, the freed slave of Abi al-Lahm, who said: My master ordered me to cut meat, and a poor man came to me, so I cooked the meat and fed him. (Hadith)
And in the same narration it is said: I said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)! Can I give some of my master’s wealth in charity? He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Yes (if he allows it), you will both be rewarded.”
Abi Lahm al-Ghaffari Martyrdom:
And Allama Ibn Abdul-Barr said: He is one of the elders and the greatest companions (may Allah be pleased with him). And there is no dispute that he was present at Hunayn and was martyred there.
